That the Galician wines are increasingly known and recognized throughout the Spanish geography is evident as reflected and rewarded in the Bacchus International Wine Competition.

The Bacchus Contest is recognized by the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine) with some 1500 participants and the VINOFED (World Federation of major Wine and Spirits Contests). It has been celebrated since 2004, awarding prizes divided into 3 categories: Gran Bacchus de Oro, Bacchus de Oro and Bacchus de Plata. It has more than 90 tasters to determine the winners of each year.

Spanish wines recognized with Bacchus medals have been several, this year 2019 the Spanish wines awarded have been 53 in the different categories. In the Gran Bacchus 2019 category: 15 of the 23 award-winning wines are Spanish.

Galician wines have long been recognized, valued and awarded over the years in the five Galician denominations: Rias Baixas, Ribeiros, Valdeorras, Ribeira Sacra and Monterrei. The Rias Baixas appellation stands out, as the example of this year's winner: Pazo de Villarei in 2018 with the Grand Bacchus de Oro 2019
