Water restrictions have begun in several municipalities in the province of Pontevedra.

Orders have been issued prohibiting the filling of swimming pools and urging responsible water consumption during a summer heat wave and the increase in population due to the arrival of tourists.

Last year, 2024, the province of Pontevedra closed with a record 1.8 million visitors, 10.5% more than in 2023. Foreign tourism in 2024 grew by 3.5%.

The City Council of Covelo (Pontevedra) has banned the use of water to fill swimming pools or irrigate orchards or gardens. Violations are subject to fines of between €50 and €500, as well as immediate water supply cut-off.
