2025 Multisport Triathlon World Championships in Pontevedra, to be held from June 20 to 29:
From June 20 to 29, 2025, Pontevedra will become the world capital of multisport triathlon. With more than 4,000 participants, a full program of six disciplines, a firm commitment to sustainability, and a vibrant cultural environment, the city will consolidate its reputation as a top-level sports destination. This isn't the first time Pontevedra has organized this type of event: it did so in 2019 (its first edition), in 2023 (the World Series Final), and will do so again in 2026.
The event encompasses ten days of competition with six disciplines, following a structured schedule:
June 21: Duathlon (running-cycling-running)
June 24: Cross Triathlon
June 26: Cross Duathlon
June 27: Aquathlon (swimming and running)
June 29: Aquabike (swimming + cycling) and the Long Distance Triathlon (3km swimming, 121km cycling, 30km running)
The main start and finish lines will be at the Centro Galego de Tecnificación Deportiva (Galician Sports Development Center). The Tirantes Bridge and the Lérez River will be an integral part of the aquatic circuit. The cross-country events will take place at Pontillón do Castro, in Verducido.
The budget is around €2.9 million, funded by the City Council, the Provincial Council, the Xunta (regional government), and the registration fees.
A special traffic plan will include closures on the Tirantes Bridge throughout the event, road closures on the N-550 and in Bos Aires, informational support for residents, posters, and 30,000 copies of brochures.
The Spanish Association Against Cancer (skin cancer and tobacco prevention) will also be involved, with food and clothing donations and breastfeeding spaces in key areas.
The cultural program will accompany the competition:
More than 20 cultural events will be distributed across squares, theaters, and iconic facades of Pontevedra. Concerts, screenings, DJs, exhibitions, and activities will be part of the Art Biennial. A different performance is that of five-time champion Javier Gómez Noya, who will participate in the Triathlon World Championship with his band, Liorta, before the Broken Peach concert, which closes the event until the Grand Final next year 2026.
