September 25, 2025 will mark the centenary celebration of the Carmelitas School in Vigo, a significant milestone for this institution.

The Carmelitas School in Vigo was founded in 1925 by the Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters, a religious order that has been dedicated to the education of children and young people since its inception. The context of its creation occurred at a key moment for the city, when Vigo was experiencing rapid economic and population growth due to industrial development, alongside the need for an education that combined academic training with the teaching of values.

Faithful to their religious mission, the Carmelite Sisters implemented an approach that prioritized discipline, respect, and ethics—values that would eventually become deeply integrated into the educational culture of Vigo. In addition to academic learning, the school also emphasized the personal and spiritual development of its students.

In its early years, the school expanded its facilities to meet the demands of a constantly growing student population. Initially, it was an all-girls school, later incorporating boys from the city who chose this institution.

The incorporation of new technologies in the 1990s marked a turning point, as it allowed students to access more advanced educational tools and resources, preparing new generations to face the challenges of the 21st century.

Today, the Carmelitas School remains one of the most important educational institutions in the city.

In a few years, other schools in Vigo will also reach their centenary:

  • San José School, founded by the Brothers of La Salle in 1942, is also one of the most well-known concerted schools in Vigo. Throughout its history, it has undergone several transformations, but has always remained faithful to its educational mission.
  • Salesianos School, founded by the Salesian Congregation in 1955, is one of the oldest schools in Vigo. From its early years, it has been a concerted school, offering an education that combines academic training with Christian values.

  • Maristas School, founded in 1959 by the Marist Brothers, centers its educational tradition around comprehensive formation, both academically and in human and Christian values.
  • Franciscano María Ana Mogas School, founded in 1976 in Vigo, is known for offering an environment that combines academic excellence with personal and social development.

Galicia, different time zone?

Until 1940 the country shared the same time zone as Portugal. Franco decided that Spain should flow with Nazi Germany and instead of Greenwich Mean Time, which is the one that corresponds to it geographically as well as Portugal or the Canary Islands, it should be modified.

This dictator also decided to bring to Spain the Bourbons, of French origin, who, while waiting for the next popular referendum, will decide whether Spain will be republican again or not, as in the municipal elections of April 1931, taken as a plebiscite between monarchy or republic and that made Alfonso XIII leave Spain.

The geographical location of Galicia, whose time zone is more aligned with Madeira or the Canary Islands, Portugal can be changed as Spain or maybe as Portugal independently because here it gets dark later than in other areas of Spain.

The calendar of winter and summer time changes according to Article 5 of Royal Decree 236/2002 must be updated every five years in the BOE which corresponds to the next year 2026.

Tenis in Pazo de Quiñones de León

From the beginning of the 20th century between 1905 and 1910, one of the first Galician tennis courts dates back to the beginning of the 20th century between 1905 and 1910. It was built by María de los Dolores Elduayen y Martínez Enríquez, IX Marquise of Valladares and VII Marquise of Mos in the Pazo de Castrelos.

Because the English daughter-in-law of the Marquise Mariana de Whyte was very fond of this game, in which other friends and relatives soon began to take up.

The stands and posts are still preserved on the estate, although due to the danger of falling trees and branches, access to the public is closed on certain days.

One of the greatest airplane tragedies and at the same time the greatest capacity for survival and motivation occurred with the protagonists of flight 571 of the Uruguayan Air Force that crashed in the Andes on October 13, 1972, whose story is reflected in the films "They Live" and "The Snow Club".

But there is another similar accident but not as well known, such as the Vigo-Madrid flight of the Aviaco company that left the Peinador airport on December 4, 1958 and crashed in the Guadarrama mountain range. For two days they searched tirelessly for the plane until the Segovian pastor Luciano Otero located the device (Awarded with a diploma, a thousand pesetas and a month's leave from military service).

All the plane's crew members died instantly (16 passengers and 5 crew members) and the causes of this appear to be due to a mechanical failure combined with poor visibility due to fog, which caused the crash against the "Dead Woman" massif. Named like this because of its peculiar orography.

Stories of lives that were cut short, like those of two girls aged 9 and 10 who were traveling to meet their parents who had saved for the flight to avoid the dangers of the road. That of the stewardess who died at only 18 years old, of a former Celta player......

Una

Several human bone remains have been found under the old Playa América Hotel in Nigrán this week.

While the building was being excavated for the installation of an elevator for what is now a community of neighbors, a skull and other bones were found piled up. So it seems like a secondary burial.

An investigation is currently underway and the skeletal remains are in the possession of the criminalistics service.

The Ciarrán storm has left flights cancelled, roads closed by rain, and hundreds of trees fallen. More than 550 incidents in Galicia alone, to which we must add the Spanish ones,

Due to this, numerous parks and cemeteries have been closed, and in Pereiro the anecdote of the day happened, although not for the person involved. Well, a woman was locked inside due to its premature closure due to said storm.

What could have occurred to her in the time that passed until she finally came out only she will know, but it certainly wasn't the same as being locked in a shopping center on a shopping day on the first of the month. Not even in an amusement park. The important thing is that he managed to get out... on his own feet.

The numbers sometimes give rise to curious coincidences, as has happened in the sad context of a war:

The sum of the start dates of World War I, World War II and Russia's invasion of Ukraine gives us the same number: 68.

Start of World War I: 28 + 7 + 19 + 14 = 68
Beginning of World War II: 1 + 9 + 19 + 39= 68
Beginning of the cruel Russian invasion of Ukraine: 24 + 2 + 20 + 22 = 68

On September 11, 2011, the attack on the twin towers of New York took place, while the first war ended on November 11, 1918. While on March 11, 2004, the terrorist attack on the Atocha station took place from Madrid.

On June 28, 1914, that produced the event that gave rise to the First World War: the assassination in Sarajevo of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. On July 28, the Austro-Hungarians attempted to invade Serbia. On June 28, 1919, the allied countries signed the Treaty of Versailles.

Number 7 has been one of the most repeated in history:

Did you know that there are 7 wonders of the ancient world?

There are 7 arts: grammar, dialectics, rhetoric, astronomy and music, arithmetic, geometry.

There are 7 musical notes. 7 are the lives that a cat has. There are 7 stages of life according to Shakespeare. There are 7 chakras according to the Hindu religion as well as 7 sacred cities.

The Talmud speaks of 7 heavens. Islam tells us that there are 7 hells. In 7 days the earth was created according to the Catholic religion. There are 7 deadly sins

There are 7 sacred cities related to the Hindu religion. There are 7 gods of fortune for Japanese culture. Surely many more coincidences could be found and now it is each one within himself who has to draw the conclusions that he deems most accurate...

The longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world is located 175 meters above the Paiva River in northern Portugal. In the Arouca Geopark.

Few people know that the Peinador Airport was built by the people of Vigo themselves. The lack of budget for the work, which began with the help of local companies until funds failed, forced it. Thinking of the benefit that this airport would bring to the city, which was to be completed, it was decided to summon all citizens to help in its construction.

From the year 1936, all men between 20 and 50 years old, from Mos, Lavadores and Vigo, are summoned to work two days a month, free of charge. Those who could not attend had to contribute to a fine of 6 pts.

The airport was built between 1947 and 1952. It was inaugurated in 1954 with the Vigo-Madrid route.
