Thanks to a storm, Vigo received a visit from Jules Verne in 1878  when he was forced to take refuge on it coast on his journey through the Mediterranean. The second occasion was to repair the boiler of his steam yacht Saint Michel III in 1884.

From his memory of the passage in the city he owes the chapter "La Bahía" from his book "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" in which Captain Nemo searches for Rande's treasures.

The impression that the city gave to Jules Verne is reflected in his words:

_ "You cannot imagine anything more admirable than this bay of Vigo, an immense lake surrounded by mountains".

Albert Einstein visited Vigo in 1925 on two occasions, making a stopover on the scientific tour that he carried out in South America. 20 years after creating the Theory of Relativity, and reflects in his diary the impressions that he took from the enchantment of the estuary::

_ "Wealth of colors and incomparable sunset in Vigo".

Margaretta Gertrude Zelle known as Mata Hari arrived in Vigo in 1916 months before her arrest and subsequent execution.
