Symbols of the city

The city of Vigo has several symbols among them:

El Sireno, symbol of Vigo, loved by some and not so much by others due to its modernist style. I come to town in 1991. Its author is Francisco Leiro Lois. It consists of two granite columns on which a fish man as a nod to the style and the seafaring connection of the city. Located in Puerta del Sol.

Another one of the best known and appreciated heights in Vigo is the one dedicated to Julio Verne in the Montero Ríos park, next to the port. A tribute to the writer who dedicated one of his chapters to search for Rande's treasure in the Ria de Vigo. It is made of copper by the artist Jose Molares in 2005.
The city also has a Vernian cultural society, the second in Spain after that of Barcelona in its honor. The aim is for the Vernian International Congress to be held here in the future.

More controversial has been the fishing boat that has been put into the Castelao roundabout due to its size and the costs involved in taking it to its new location. He was the first to leave the shipyards of the city and his name was "Bernardo Alfageme"
