The latest UNESCO's 2023 GEM report on education and technology, which reviews educational policies and the use of mobile phones in schools, warns that one country in four already regulates its use.

A cell phone that rings in class distracts the attention of the person carrying it and their classmates. In addition, using it in the playground would help spread images of other minors or hypothetical cases of bullying. On the other hand, addiction to them is generated earlier and earlier.

Italy prohibited it by law in schools in 2007, France in 2018, Portugal also has it restricted, while in Spain the competition depends on each community.

In Spain, mobile phone use depends on each autonomous community. In Galicia, its use in excursions, extraordinary activities, dining or recess until now was regulated in each school in Galicia, being prohibited only in classrooms. Starting at the beginning of the year 2024, that is, Monday, January 8, it will be regulated by law and will be prohibited throughout the school grounds.

It remains to be known whether the rule is flexible or not with students over 16 years of age, that is, in high school or vocational training courses
